Youth Counselor/Advocate
Position: Youth Counselor/Advocate
Supervised by: Program Director
Full Time Equivalent: 100 percent
Salary Range: $27,000-$30,000

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Counseling, Advocacy and Referrals
• Provide crisis intervention, individual and group counseling to adolescent victims of sexual assault and/or childhood sexual abuse, as well as family members or caregivers.
• Provide accurate information and referrals to callers and clients.
• Provide legal and medical accompaniments and advocacy to victims of sexual assault.

Outreach
• Maintain and develop strong working relationships with area schools, Dane County Child Protective Services and other youth-oriented entities.
• Conduct educational outreach and professional trainings to general and youth-specific audiences.

Program
• Implement short- and long-range program goals developed in conjunction with management.

General
• Participate in weekly staff meetings, document services provided, and assist in the general upkeep of office space.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Commitment to providing high quality, strength-based services to adolescents affected by sexual violence.
• Skills in public speaking and educational outreach.
• Comfort and competence in working independently.
• Access to private transportation.
• Flexible work hours, including evenings and some weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Understanding of sexual violence and related issues.
• Experience and/or training in providing crisis intervention services, client advocacy, and counseling, preferably to adolescent victims of sexual assault.
• Verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
• Masters in Social Work or related field.
• Knowledge of Dane County youth resources.

The Rape Crisis Center is committed to ensuring that our direct services are accessible and client-centered. The Youth Counselor must have available evening hours and be willing to provide counseling at alternative locations (e.g., schools, in-patient psychiatric units, etc.).

Bi-lingual Legal Advocate
Position: Bi-lingual (English and Spanish-speaking) Legal Advocate
Supervised by: Program Director
Full Time preferred
Salary Range: $26,000 - $29,000 annually

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (with an emphasis on serving Spanish-speaking clients):

Crisis Intervention and Referrals
• Provide crisis counseling services by phone and in-person to sexual assault victims /victims of childhood sexual abuse, as well as their support people and concerned community members.
• Provide accurate and up-to-date information and referrals to callers and clients.

Advocacy
• Provide legal and medical advocacy and accompaniments to victims of sexual assault. This includes providing sexual assault victims with accurate information regarding involvement with law enforcement, the criminal justice system, Crime Victim's Compensation, Restraining Orders, forensic medical exams, and general medical care related to the aftermath of sexual assault. Must work collaboratively with community organizations and agencies such as law enforcement, District Attorney's Office, and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program.

Outreach
• Participate in community meetings and work groups as they pertain to meeting the counseling needs of Spanish-speaking victims of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse.
• Provide sexual assault related trainings to professionals working with Spanish-speaking clients.

General
• Attend regular staff meetings and in-services, maintain regular contact with staff and supervisor, document services provided, and assist in office operations.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Strong verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
• Understanding of diversity issues and client-centered approach to client services.
• Commitment to serving people affected by sexual violence.
• Access to private transportation.
• Flexible work hours.
